Klager Wins TUSA Mod Lite Event at Humberstone Speedway

IMG_0206PORT COLBORNE, ONTARIO (August 21, 2016) “The Beamsville Bullet” Paul Klager claimed the win in the annual visit by the TUSA Mod Lite Tour at the Humberstone Speedway on The Verge Insurance Group Night at the races. St. Catharines, Ontario’s Cody McPherson picked up the victory in the PC Works DIRTcar Sportsman. Dennis Lunger Jr from Albion, Pennsylvania won his sixth Pinty’s RUSH Late Model feature of the season. Dave Bailey from Hagersville, Ontario won his fourth JC Auto Street Stocks feature of the season, sweeping the weekend. Dylan Llord from St. Catharines, Ontario continued his dominance in 2016 as he picked up another victory in the Mike Knapp Ford Pro 4 Trucks. Kyle Haynes from Caledon, Ontario won his fourth Cosco Haulage Mini Stocks feature.   Jamie Gilbert and Derek Wagner led the TUSA Mod Lites to the green flag for their 20 lap feature event and it was Gilbert showing the way. Chris Watson flipped in turn three to bring out the red flag on lap one. On the restart, Gilbert and Wagner battled for the lead with Wagner taking the point as Josh Sliter would move into third and then challenged Gilbert for second. Wagner lost the handle in turn two with Josh Sliter also getting involved to bring out the caution on lap three. Both drivers were able to continue on racing. Jamie Gilbert would continue to show the way with Paul Klager running in second. Klager would use the outside to take the lead away on lap five. Derek Wagner and Josh Sliter worked their way back into the top five by the races midway point. The leader would hit lap traffic during the second half of the race. Klager would drive away from the field to pick up the TUSA Mod Lite tour victory, for his second tour triumph of the weekend. Josh Sliter and Klager earned qualifying event wins. IMG_0196Chad Chevalier and Brad Rouse battled for the lead early on in the PC Works DIRTcar Sportsman main event. The duo battled for several circuits as Jay Mallory, Jordan Cosco and Jeff Armstrong running in the top five. The leaders would hit lap traffic at the midway point as Cody McPherson caught Jeff Armstrong for fifth. McPherson would complete the pass on lap 15. Darrell Farraway ended up on his side in turn one after having a collision with Justin Sharp and Trevor Wright on lap 17. Farraway climbed out under his own power as his torn up race car ended up being towed back to the pits. On the restart, the duo would continue to battle as Cody McPherson passed Jay Mallory to move into fourth. McPherson got to the outside of Rouse and Cosco to move into second place and then challenged Chevalier for the lead. McPherson would take the lead on lap 22 McPherson would drive on to pick up the win over Chevalier, with Rouse, Cosco and Mallory completing the top five. IMG_0174Dennis Lunger Jr and Tim Gillespie led the Pinty’s Delicious Foods RUSH Late Models to the green flag and Lunger jumped out into the lead as Rob Pietz challenged Tim Gillespie for second early on. Colton Ledingham and Brad Simpson made contact on the front straightaway and Ledingham flipped down the front stretch, landing on the catch fence. Ledingham climbed out of the car under his own power. Once the field went back under green flag conditions, Lunger would take off into the lead over Gillespie, Pietz, and Sam Pennacchio running in the top four. Lunger would check out on the field as Pennacchio battled Pietz for third. Lunger would drive away to earn his sixth win of the season, Tim Gillespie would finish in second with Pietz, Pennacchio and Jeff Dayman rounding out the top five.     IMG_4814Kyle Pelrine and Jason Fontaine were on the front row for the JC Auto Street Stocks feature event and it was Fontaine showing the way with Dave Bailey running in second with Pelrine and Bill Bleich Jr running in fourth place. Bleich would look underneath Bailey for second on lap five and would complete the pass on lap six. Bailey however, would regain the runner up spot just one lap later. The lead trio would battle for the lead as Rob Murray would catch the top three to make it a four car battle for the lead. Bleich and Murray would make contact exiting turn two with Bleich suffering a flat left front tire, bringing out the caution on lap 14. On the restart, Fontaine and Bailey battled for the lead with Bailey taking the lead with four laps remaining.     IMG_0159Jaime Ayers and Dylan Llord shared the front row for the Mike Knapp Ford Pro 4 Trucks and it was Llord showing the way with Danny Wurster in second with Craig Vlasic running in third early on. Wurster, Vlasic, Mike Toovey and Taylor Vanderzanden put on a four truck battle for much of the feature distance as Llord pulled away from the field. Jaime Ayers got stuck on a “Ute” tire to bring out the races first caution with just two laps remaining, erasing Llord’s lead over the field. Llord and Toovey pulled away off the restart but Toovey got loose off turn two on the final circuit and Llord was able to go  on to score the win.       IMG_0182Nick Sarantakos and Kyle Haynes brought the Cosco Haulage Mini Stocks to the green flag for their feature event and it was Haynes jumping into the lead. Jay Moulton would take second away from Sam Iftody on lap three and would begin to challenge race leader Haynes. Teeple would get loose off turn four to lose the fourth spot but was able to race on. Moulton would catch Haynes for the lead. Haynes and Moulton pulled away from the rest of the field. Coutu had issues and pulled into the pits, giving up third place on the track. Haynes would pull away from Moulton to score the victory.       NEWS AND NOTES: Young fan Cameron was Lucas Oil/Leslie Motorsports Jr Fan Members of the Week. Cameron received a prize pack from Lucas Oil and Leslie Motorsports. As part of being the Jr. Fan Member of the week, Cameron said “the most famous words in Motorsports” as well as got the chance to ride in the Pace Car and get picture taken with each of the feature winners in Epic Racewear Victory Lane! This will be an emotional night as the track honors the man who is responsible for keeping the racing action alive at Humberstone. A full card of Sportsman, Late Models, Street Stocks, Pro 4 Trucks and Mini Stocks will round out the card. Gates will open up at 4:30pm with racing getting underway at 6:30pm sharp.
