Go Nuclear! Late Model Series Kicks Off 2014 Season With 1st Annual Gnome Cup at Utica Rome Speedway on Sunday Night
The 2014 Go Nuclear! Late Model Series will finally get underway this Sunday night at Utica Rome Speedway in Vernon, New York for the first annual Gnome Cup. The first race of the season will see a robust field of cars from Ontario, Canada, New York and Pennsylvania as they battle for the unique Gnome Cup trophy and the $1500 top prize that goes with it. The added money to the purse is provided by Tenace Home Music and Cinema Systems. Several kids bikes will also be given out during the evening to young race fans. To add some extra excitement to the event, local favorite Stewart Friesen, who has won just about everything in the Big Block Modified, and has found success in a 360 Sprint Car, will make his Go Nuclear Late Model Series debut at the Gnome Cup. He will join a profound group of series regulars looking to get the 2014 series started off strong. Although Friesen has more laps under him than anyone else in the field at Utica Rome, it will be his first time ever in a Late Model. Series regular Rick Miller won the first ever Go Nuclear Late Model Series race at Utica Rome in 2013 and he will be back looking to capture the Gnome Cup, as will current Series Champion Dale Caswell, Charlie Sandercock, Alan Fink, and many others. “It has been a long off-season, and so far it has been a slow start to the season with all of the rain that we have had”, but the forecast for Sunday looks great and we are really excited to get the 2014 season underway”, says series organizer Shayne Tenace. “We have a great group of competitors coming in for Sunday from all over, and we are all anxious to see who will win the first annual Gnome Cup event”. Gates will open on Sunday afternoon at Utica Rome Speedway at 3:30pm. Hot laps will get underway at 5:10pm and racing starts at 6pm. It is recommended that all teams arrive early to go through pre-race tech procedures. The Go Nuclear!
