With the running of the JC Auto Eve Of Destruction, with special thanks to Chris Johnson, the highly successful and sellout crowd was highly entertained and eventful 2012 racing season comes to a close and racers and race fans alike are now chomping at the bit, waiting for the 2013 racing season to get here!
After 75 crash-filled laps, the winner of the Enduro race was Ohsweken competitor Karl Sault with two J C Auto Street Stock regulars Steve "Smokey" Robison second and Dave Bitner Jr third. Former Ohsweken technical inspector Glenn Hils was the leader for a good part of the early going but dropped out with engine problems.
The ladies race was next with track general manager Bob Davidson's sister Crystal Davidson picking up the win and second spot going to Sarah Rutherford.Third spot went to Emily Puchalski, getting the best finish of the Armstrong family. Not too sure where Carrie wound up, just not last!
Next up was the flagpole race and after twelve laps, it was another of the Hils brothers picking up the win, namely Chris Hils. Scoring for this race was somewhat confused, so at this point, all I know is the winner.
The Backwards race was next and once again, the early leader was Glenn Hils, but yet again, he had problems and had to retire from the race, leaving the victory to Peter Polchak.
A new event for 2012 was a 2 car chain race which was quite interesting with a big field of very diversified entries varying from Jason Coutu's Jeep and his old mini stock to two Chevy Astro vans tied together. Once again, the Hils Brothers entry with Glenn driving and Karl Sault in the towed car showed they did their homework and won this race as well.
The long jump was next and finally someone else had a chance to take it as the Hils' stayed out of this one! With a combined jump of over one hundred feet, it was Erick Muise the winner with Guy Deschamps second and Shawn Willen third.
The always wild and wooly trailer race was next with all manner of trailers ranging from a full size house trailer to a little plastic wagon with pit steward Louie Caetano in it(no he didn't stay in it for the whole race!) with also the usual boat trailers. On the first lap, one of the boats fell off(like it was supposed to) right in front of everybody on the front stretch and at the end,one of the drivers in the back of the pack Coutu, ran it over to the enjoyment of the crowd! Again, the winner was Glenn Hils, adding to his overall point score.
The next event up was the small car demolition derby with a good size field of about 15 cars and after all the crashing and banging, it was Chris Hils the winner in this one.
The second to last event of the day was the large car demolition with an even bigger field than the small one, with vans and trucks in it! One of the trucks wound up getting stuck between cars and then another driver drove his car backwards right over the top of the box of the truck, much to the amusement of all in attendance! The winner after all was said and done was Teddy Sheppard!
So with all that, the overall winner was Glenn Hils of the Hils Brothers team and with that, the 2012 season is now over, put to bed, and we hope to see each and every one of you race fans next year!
