The weather all weekend may have been damp and dreary but for Tyler McPherson, it was all sunshine as between Friday night at Ransomville, Saturday night at Merrittville and here at the New Humberstone Speedway for the special DIRTcar Fall Tour race, he went three for three and took home all the money!
In the 50 lap Trever Wilkens Memorial 50 lap COSCO HAULAGE Mr DIRT-CAR Sportsman Tour event, time trials set up the qualifying heats and a redraw, there were two invaders on the front row namely, from St.Robert, PQ Martin Pelletier and from Cayuga, NY Dave Marcuccilli and on the drop of the green flags from John Veach, Marcuccilli moved out to the early lead coming out of turn two. His progress would be immedaitely slowed by a yellow flag for a big collision in turns one and two involving Greg Panunte, Jesse Cotriss, Justin Sharp and Brandon Easey. All were able to continue. It would take four tries to get some sort of rythum where there wasn’t any “stop and go” and Marcuccilli would still be in the lead but pressure from Pelletier and then Tyler McPherson, I’m guessing, wore him down and on lap 39, he bobbled just a little bit and that was all that McPherson needed to get by and he wound up leading the last ten laps to pick up the three-peat for the weekend. Pelletieralso slipped by Marcuccilli for second with Marcuccilli hanging on for third. Fourth was Greg Panunte with Gary Lindberg fifth. Heat winners were Adam Leslie, Pelletier, James Michael Friesen and Mathieu Desjardins with the two consi’s going to Corey Wheeler and Mark Chiddy.
PETERS EXCAVATING FASTRAK Late Models: With the points already decided last week, most of the drivers decided to take this week off,so there was only a 5 lap”Dash for Dash” that was won by Kenny Winfield with Luke Carleton second and Tim Gillespie third. Rob Ledingham subbing for Paul Milligan was fourth with Bill Gill fifth. The lone heat winner was Gillespie.
J C AUTO Street Stocks: Humberstone Speedway held Round 3 of their Top Of The Rock Street Stock Series, 30 Street Stocks attempted to qualify for the 24 car field. With the other tracks in the area being dark tonight, there was a full field of cars for tonight’s feature. With the “heads-up start’ in the 25 lap main for tonight, the first heat winner, Jason Fontaine was on the pole with the second heat winner, Cory Turner beside him. On the start, Fontaine got out to the early lead and held it for the first two laps, surrendering it to Turner just before the first caution flag for a jingle between Steve Robison and Sean Letts. During this caution period, Fontaine would retire to the pits and not return. Turner would lead the next eight laps before bowing to the pressure that Kevin Knapp was putting on him for those eight laps. Dave Small, subbing for Bryce Richardson, was making a spirited charge through the field, bringing Kenny Sargent along with him, getting up to the back of Turner just before the last caution came out for another spin by Robison. This would be all that Knapp needed to hold off Turner for the win.Small would finish third with Sargent fourth and Paul Reichel fifth. Heat winners were Fontaine, C. Turner, Jordan Fidler and Reichel with the consi going to Ryan Turner. Earlier this season, Ken sargent won rounds 1 and 2 of the series.
NIAGARA AUTO SALES Pro 4 Trucks: Starting on the front row was Hilary Haegens with Taylor Vanderzanden along side of her. On the drop of the green, it was Haegens getting the jump on the field, setting off about the best race of the year for the class. Adam Nicholls moved past Vanderzanden after a good side by side battle and then Vanderzanden had his hands full holding off Mike Toovey and Lee Sleight. Nicholls would almost get by Haegens on various occasions but could not get by her. At the finish, it was Haregens getting her fourth win of 2012, Nicholls was second with Vanderzanden third. Fourth was Toovey and fifth was Sleight. Heat winners were Haegens and Vanderzanden.
WEEKEND MOTORSPORTS Mini Stocks: Starting on the pole was supposed to be Greg Wilson but he was having problems with his #33 so Brandon Iudiciani moved up to the first starting spot with Tyler Lafantaisie on the outside. On the start, Lafantaisie took the early lead with Iudiciani right on his tail. Lafantaisie would lead the first seven laps, surviving the first two cautions, the first for Rob Overholt and Nate Monahan, the second one coming on the restart with Steve Vanderzanden spinning in turn two right in front of everybody with Overholt and Monahan piling into him along with Evan Curtis. Just after the restart for this, Iudiciani would get by Lafantaisie bringing Chris Laskey and Aaron Wiley with him and hold them off for the rest of the run. On lap eleven, Wilson’s night would go from bad to worse as he lost the right front tire. This bunched up the field and set up an exciting finish with Lafantaisie, Kyle Pelrine and Ron Loggie running three-wide on the last lap for the fourth spot with Lafantaisie getting it. Iudiciani picked up just his second win of 2012 with Laskey second and Wiley third. Lafantaisie was fourth with Pelrine fifth. Heat winners were Iudiciani and Curtis.
FRONTIER AUTO DISMANTLERS Pure Stocks: Starting on the front row was Sam Iftody with points leader Kyle Rothwell along side. On the start, Iftody grabbed the early lead and never headed after that. Leroy Buscumb was running third until he had some issues with his #71 and had to go pitside. Even a last lap yellow flag for a spin by Billy Smith couldn’t deter Iftody from picking up his fifth win of 2012. Rothwell was second with Kyle Tomaski third. Fourth was Brad Booker with Olivier Larocque fifth. The lone heat winner was Buscumb.
An Eve Of Destruction Enduro Qualifier of 30 laps was held but was shortened after a nasty rollover by Leroy Buscumb who was shaken up. This brought a halt to the Enduro after 15 laps and the winner was: Chris Somos followed by Kenny Sargent and Jason Coutu.
