FARRAWAY’S WIN IS FAR FAR AND AWAY AT HUMBERSTONE SPEEDWAY ON CAA NIGHT

Port Colborne,ON by Les Mawson(humberstonepr@yahoo.ca)with help from Fran Bushardt.
A gorgeous night greeted the New Humberstone Speedway and its fans on CAA night and management would like to thank Bill Willard,Jr.and the rest of the CAA crew for all their help in the past year.
COSCO HAULAGE DIRTcar Sportsman: In the 25 lap Main with Joey Mastroianni and Jeff Armstrong leading the field to the green, Mastroianni would take the top spot in the very early going but Hamilton’s Darrell Farraway would make the move to the front from his 4th starting spot. Farraway who’s had an up and down season could not get any higher this night would build a very healthy lead, only to see it close for the races only caution early in the feature. When the race resumed Farraway would stretch the lead to a full half lap over Mastroianni and masterfully work lap traffic on his way to his first ever feature win. With very heavy traffic the normal highpoint pilots struggled to make their way thru the field. Rounding out the top 5 behind Farraway were Mastroianni, BJ Willard, Gary Lindberg and and Gregg Rauscher who failed post race tech. Heat winners were Jeff Armstrong,Darrell Farraway and Matt Sharpe.
PETERS EXCAVATING FASTRAK Late Models: Kenny Winfield and Dean Ferri would set the pace in the 20 lap main with “Windy” gaining the early lead and off to a fine start for several laps with Adam Ferri moving up quickly from his 5th starting spot. Ferri’s lead would not be very solid as the points battle with the Son and Father team of Jorden and Darren Peters would not allow Ferri a big lead as the Peters were tied for the point lead and Ferri just 2 points back. So the heated battle up front continued for the full 20 lap main with Ferri gaining his 3rd win of the season followed bu Jorden Peters, Ed Carley, Darren Peters, and Paul Grigsby aboard a new ride. Heat winners were Dean Ferri and Darren Peters.
J C AUTO Street Stocks:In the 20 lap feature with Barry Blanchard and Tyler Anderson up front, with both exchanging the lead in the early going allowing point leader Jason Fontaine to move up rapidly. Also leading briefly in the race was Steve Robison having a fine run this evening. But Fontaine, from his 7th starting s[pot would move up and become a factor and would gain the lead. In a pre race conversation with Fontaine ” We have never won 3 in a row before and would help us out alot.” Well, 3 in a row it was for Fontaine who would stretch his healthy point lead as he enthusiastically exited his car in victory lane. Next in line were Paul Reichel, Robison, Blanchard and Terry Ronning. Heat winners were Barry Blanchard and Paul Reichel. The race was halted for Tim Zack who’s cars erupted in flames but he escaped uninjured.
NIAGARA AUTO SALES Pro 4 trucks:(15 laps) Starting in the front row were a pair of youngsters, third generation driver Colton Ledingham and second generation driver Jamie Ayers. On the drop of the green, it was Ayers grabbing the early lead coming out of turn two and was having the run of her young career, running in the top five for a very good portion of the race. She was passed on the second lap by Danny Wurster who was one of the just two drivers in the top ten without a feature win until tonight. Wurster held the lead all race, with only a slight challenge from Ledingham as the youngster could only get within a couple lengths of the leader. Even a late caution for a spin by Ayers on lap eleven could not phase Wurster as he went on to record his first win of 2012 and add his name to the growing number of winners for the season. Second was Ledingham with third going to Greg Haegens. Fourth was current point leader Mike Toovey with fifth going to Hilary Haegens. Heat winners were Wurster and Adam Williams.
WEEKEND MOTORSPORTS Mini Stocks:(15 laps)
Starting on the front row,in comparison to the truck race was a pair of “grizzled veterans”,Garnet Wilson with Evan Curtis on the outside. On the drop of the green, it was Curtis taking the early lead coming out of turn two and holding it for the first three laps. Next it was Wilson’s turn out front and he held the lead for the next three laps, until lap seven. Lap eight, it was Curtis back out front, retaking the lead after a caution for a spin in turn one by Nate Monahan. Next it was Kyle Pelrine’s turn to lead the way which he did all the rest of the run, taking his third win of 2012. Curtis held on for second with Steve Vanderzanden third. Fourth was Brandon Iudiciani while Wilson hung in for fifth. Heat winners were Aaron Wiley, with an unexpected visit, and Iudiciani.
FRONTIER AUTO DISMANTLERS Pure Stocks:(15 laps)
Starting on the pole was Billy Smith with Sam Iftody along side. As what could have been expected, it was the veteran Iftody out racing Smith into the first corner and then hanging on the rest of the way for his fourth win of 2012.”Hanging on” was the proper analogy for Iftody’s run as for most of the race, he had Leroy Buscumb right on his tail. Buscumb actually passed Iftody for the lead a couple times but just as he either did or got close, the yellow flag came out and saved Iftody. At the finish,it was Iftody picking up his fourth win of the season with Buscumb second and Kyle Rothwell third. Fourth was Kyle Tomaski with Mike Greene fifth. Heat winners were Iftody and Greene.
Rick St Pierre would pull of the win in the 15 lap Vintage Car event over Mark Shadwell, Doug Fralick, Darrell Bray and Gord Edwards.
